“Queen of Philippine Movies” Susan Roces finally laid to rest

THE acknowledged “Queen of Philippine Movies” Susan Roces was finally laid to rest at noon today, leaving a large void in the entertainment industry.

The casket of the veteran actress was placed inside her grave at the Manila North Cemetery at 12:06 p.m. right beside that of his deceased husband, Fernando Poe Jr., otherwise known in the local moviedom as “The King.”

Family, including daughter Senator Grace Poe, and friends in the entertainment industry, took turns in placing white roses in her grave.

Before the interment, a Holy Mass was held at the Heritage Park in Taguig City at 9 a.m.

By 11 a.m., the funeral convoy left Heritage Park to proceed to the Manila North Cemetery for the funeral rites.

The placed was packed with people who all expressed their condolences and to join the family of the actress in bringing her to her final resting place.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel John Guiagu, chief of Manila Police District Station 3, around 800 people went to the cemetery to pay their last respects and be first-hand witnesses to the end of one of the most enduring and well-loved personalities in the Philippine movie and entertainment scene.
