The Quezon City Government, through the City Health Department (QCHD), has officially declared a dengue outbreak as cases continue to rise at an alarming rate.
Mayor Joy Belmonte has mobilized all available resources and strengthened public health programs to curb the outbreak and ensure that essential services remain accessible to QCitizens.
“Declaring a dengue outbreak allows us to take swift and decisive action to protect our residents, especially children, who are the most vulnerable. We are doing everything possible to combat this deadly disease,” Mayor Belmonte stated.
Dengue Cases Surge by Nearly 200%
From January 1 to February 14, 2025, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (CESD) recorded 1,769 dengue cases—a nearly 200% increase compared to the same period last year.
Alarmingly, 58% of cases involve school-aged children (5 to 17 years old), while 44% affect younger children (1 to 10 years old). Tragically, ten QCitizens, including eight minors, have succumbed to the disease.
“Most victims of this deadly disease are children. As parents, we must work together to protect them. Be alert for symptoms and take part in community clean-up drives,” Mayor Belmonte urged.
Expanded Health Services and Fever Express Lanes
To ensure early detection and treatment, all 66 QC Health Centers will remain open on weekends (Saturday and Sunday, 8 AM – 5 PM) to accommodate potential dengue patients.
Additionally, Fever Express Lanes have been established in all health centers and hospitals to provide immediate medical attention for individuals experiencing fever—a primary symptom of dengue. Free dengue test kits are also available.
Intensified Mosquito Control Measures
Barangay Spraying Teams, under the supervision of Sanitary Inspectors, are actively conducting:
✔ Spraying and fogging in high-risk areas to eliminate adult mosquitoes
✔ Larviciding in water bodies to prevent mosquito breeding
Community Call to Action: Prevention Starts at Home
Residents are urged to take proactive measures:
✅ Use mosquito repellents and wear protective clothing (long sleeves and pants)
✅ Eliminate stagnant water in containers, tires, and pots to prevent mosquito breeding
✅ Maintain clean surroundings and participate in barangay-led clean-up drives
Dengue Awareness Campaigns in Schools and Communities
Pre-clinic lectures, dengue awareness assemblies, and forums are being held to educate QCitizens about dengue prevention. Barangay officials and school administrators are also being briefed to ensure full cooperation in combating the outbreak.
“QCitizens, if you experience symptoms like fever, headaches, and joint pain, go to the nearest health center immediately,” the mayor urged.
