Proposal for the establishment of Anti-Drug Abuse Councils, okayed by Congress

THE proposal for the establishment of Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (ADAC) in the country has been approved by the congress.

With 200 Yes votes and without objection, House Bill 7812 or the “An Act Creating Anti-Drug Abuse Councils” passed through its third and final reading today at the House of Representatives.

Under the said bill authored by House Assistant Majority Leader and Iloilo Rep. Julienne “Jam” Baronda, it allows to create establishments of ADAC in every region, provinces, cities, municipalities and barangays nationwide.

ADAC will be compose and supervise by local officials and representatives from various organizations who oversee its planning, implementation and conduct local anti-drug abuse programs, projects, and activities.

The council will also serve as a mechanism for obtaining information and will report to the authorities in relation to suspicious illegal drug personalities, facilities, and activities in their jurisdiction.

According to Rep. Baronda, the information available to the ADAC will help Congress develop cohesive and functional policies to effectively eradicate illegal drugs in the country.

The legislator, on the other hand, admitted that the case related to illegal drugs is still rampant, especially in the current situations on pandemic, and people presently have no jobs, are immediately encouraged by the sudden and big income in dealing with drug trade, just to meet their daily needs.
