THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 8,560 new COVID-19 cases today, which is slightly lower than yesterday’s 8,900 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 10, 2021.
However, positivity rate was at another high of 21.9 percent with 33,070 people who were tested.
With the additional cases today, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country is now at 1,676,156, while active cases rose further to 79,016 from yesterday’s 78,480 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
A total of only 92 COVID-19 deaths were registered today, which is higher than yesterday’s six deaths. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 29,220.
The DOH also logged 7,964 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, a little higher than the 7,937 recoveries posted yesterday.
Currently, there are now 1,567,920 individuals listed as total recoveries.
Majority, or 96.1 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.
A total of 118 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 114 were recoveries.
Also, seven cases earlier tagged as recoveries were validated as active cases, and 29 cases tagged earlier as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.
All laboratories were operational on August 8, 2021 while 13 laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the 13 non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 2.8 percent of samples tested and 2.8 percent of positive individuals.
The DOH noted that daily case counts are affected by the output from the laboratories nationwide. It said the relatively low case counts today is due to lower laboratory output last Sunday.
The agency continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
