THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) formed what it called a Task Force Kontra Fake News to run after individuals or groups responsible for the spread of wrong information against the institution and the process of election.
Commissioner George Garcia clarified, however, that the task force will not focus on wrong information against candidates and it said it is also not their mandate to target the critics of the poll body.
Garcia made sure that the task force will prosecute and charge any individual or group that will be proven responsible in the spread of fake news.
The Task Force Kontra Fake News will be made up of two commissioners who will serve as Chairman and Vice Chairman and members will come from the Education and Information Department, Law Department and Information Technology Department, and from the Office of the Comelec Chairman.
Garcia said the center of monitoring of the task force will only be on those related to the May 9, 2022 local and national elections.
