THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is ready should Metro Manila mayors decide to lift entirely or shorten the uniform curfew hours being implemented in the region.

This was the assurance given by PNP Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar, who said police personnel are ready to secure streets and communities in case the curfew is shortened or scrapped.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is mulling to lift or at least adjust curfew hours to give way to longer mall hours.

At present, the National Capital Region (NCR) implements curfew hours from 12 midnight to 4 in the morning.

PGen Eleazar said the PNP is always ready to assure the safety of everyone and this is not a new task for the police force since this part of their mandate.

We will be more aggressive in terms of security, especially now that the Yuletide season is fast approaching wherein their will be street markets and discounted sales will be held in malls here in the NCR. We won’a allow criminal elements to take advantage of this situation,” he added.

According to MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos, this proposal is still up for the decision of NCR mayors. The national government has decided to still place NCR under Alert Level 3 from November 1 to 14.
