PNR launches new trains for Manila-Laguna and vice versa

CALAMBA CITY–The Philippine National Railways (PNR) launched recently brand-new Diesel Hydraulic Locomotives (DHL) made by Indonesia

The new 15-passenger coaches were manufactured by PT Industri Kereta Api (PT-INKA) and deliver commuters from Tutuban in Manila Station all the way to Los Banos, Laguna and vice versa.

It can accommodate up to 140,000 passengers daily unlike before, which can only accommodate half.

The new DHLs are considered high-capacity trains with a maximum passenger capacity of 1,330 and a water wading capacity of 18 inches.

The passenger coaches consist of a five-car formation. The middle coach holds the conductor’s room that controls door operation, CCTV monitoring, light switches, including a public announcement system.

Maximum design speed of the train is at 120 kph with high clearance for flood tracks. The main engine runs on 2200 horsepower (1700KW) and is equipped with a Power Management System for fuel optimization. It also has a monitoring system with diagnostic and recorder functions as well.

The trains are equipped with a 36,000 kcal/hour air conditioning unit in each coach, which is suitable for tropical countries like the Philippines.

It also has two driver cabins each, one at both ends, and is equipped with 7,000 kcal/h cooling capacity at each cabin comes with interior access to the train’s engine room, a first for the PNR fleet.

With the new train coaches, passengers are assured of a safe, convenient, and comfortable riding experience.
