PNP to intensify campaign against illegal gambling in amusement fairs

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) declared that it will intensify its operations against illegal gambling activities in amusement fairs or “peryahan” operating in different parts of the country.

This is why the PNP ordered its commanders to be aggressive in its campaign against illegal gambling, and will also implement what it calls the “One Strike” policy.

According to PMGen. Valeriano de Leon, PNP Director for Operations, the “One Strike Policy” will be imposed on police commanders who will be proven to be remiss in their jobs and are conniving with amusement fair operators.

He explained that they already have a memorandum already in effect regarding this and it will be strictly implemented.

De Leon reminded that the order from Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office Chairperson Royina Garma that “Peryahan ng Bayan” in towns are not authorized.

Meanwhile, based on PNP monitoring, it turns out that the Calabarzon region is number one in the country in terms of having many illegal amusement fairs.
