A POLICE officer assigned in Western Mindanao is the latest COVID-19 fatality in the Philippine National Police (PNP), raising the death toll to 124.

Based on his medical records, the 35-year-old patient experienced mild symptoms of COVID-19 last October 3 and relied on traditional medication.

On October 13, the symptoms persisted and his superior asked him to seek medical check-up and go to the nearby hospital but his family refused.

On October 14, with the help of a close friend, the patient’s family agreed to be transferred to the hospital and undergo Rapid Antigen Test, which yielded a positive result.

On the evening of October 17, the patient was pronounced dead by his attending physician due to Respiratory Failure secondary to COVID-19, but whose death was confirmed and reported only over the weekend.

PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of the police officer.

The PNP expresses its sincere condolences to the family of our beloved officer. We continue to remind everyone to immediately seek medical assistance once they experience COVID-19 symptoms. We should do this not just for our own safety but also for the safety of our family,” PGen Eleazar said.

Meanwhile, the PNP Health Service noted a steady decrease in new cases. As of today, November 8, only six new cases were tallied bringing the total cases to 42,022 with only 300 active cases. A total of 24 recoveries were also recorded raising the number of recovered cases to 41,598.

Further, about 90.76 percent or 203,588 of PNP personnel are fully protected with the required vaccine doses against the COVID-19 while 7.89 percent or 17,692 personnel have received the first dose. With these numbers, only 1.35 percent or 3,032 personnel are yet to receive the vaccines.
