PNP chief asks to fast-track dismissal from service of cop arrested due to online sabong

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief P/Gen. Dionardo Carlos ordered to fast-track dismissal from service proceedings against P/Lt. John Kevin Menes after he was slapped with various administrative and criminal charges.

This was due to the addiction of Menes on the popular online cockfighting where he used his unit’s P500,000 operations fund and even sold the vehicle of one of his men.

Menes was assigned at the Special Operations Unit of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) in the Calabarzon area, and was even given commendations because of his contributions to the police force’s campaign against illegal drugs.

According to Carlos, Menes was included among PNP personnel who were earlier castigated because of their addiction to online sabong despite his earlier order prohibiting police personnel from engaging in any form of gambling.

PNP Chief Carloer earlier ordered all Police Unit Commanders to investigate the cellphones of their subordinates to know if there are any installed applications or “apps” related to e-sabong and to immediately take appropriate action.
