THE Philippine National Police (PNP) reminded all political candidates running for elective positions in the national and local polls are prohibited from conducting election campaigns on April 14, Maundy Thursday and on April 15, which is Good Friday.
The reminder was issued by PNP Chief PGen. Dionardo Carlos as the police organization prepares for the country’s observation of the Holy Week, and said the prohibition was based on the Calendar of Activities issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
He said the police will strictly monitor activities in public areas on those days, and politicians and their supporters found to have violated the prohibition will be reported to the Comelec.
The PNP chief earlier tasked all of the PNP’s field commanders to ensure police visibility and the setting up of police assistance centers in areas where people traditionally flock to during those day, particularly transportation hubs and along major highways going to the provinces.
