The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or Phivolcs once again reminding residents living near the foothills of Mayon, Pinatubo and Taal for possible massive lahar flows due to the incessant rains brought by typhoon “Ulysses”.

According to Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum, heavy rains will soon wash away the rocks and fainted grounds around the Mayon volcano as well as the pyroclastic materials left behind by the 1991 Pinatubo eruption.

Solidum also warns that mud flows would also be more likely to slip from the Taal volcano because of continuous rains.

Solidum stressed the need for local government units to take action on the situation for the safety of its constituents.
