PCG rescues six people in Basilan

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was able to rescue six individuals aboard a motorboat in waters part of Basilan province .

According to Commodore Luisito Sibayan, Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) commander, the victims were rescued off the waters in the vicinity of Little Coco Island, Akbar, Basilan.

Commodore Sibayan, however, did not provide details on the identities of the rescued individuals but mentioned that there were three adults and three minors that were saved by the crew of BRP-Malamawi (FPB-2403).

He said the BRP-Malamawi was cruising along the waters of Sibago Island, Basilan when its crew saw the motorboat whose engine was stalled for more or less two hours and with the six individuals aboard.

Immediately, they (BRP-Malamawi crew) rescued the passengers and provided them with necessary assistance,” Commodore Sibayan said in a statement.

He said the motorboat left Basilan going towards Sacol Island, Zamboanga City when it ran into engine trouble and got stalled.

The BRP Malamawi towed the motorboat towards Zamboang City.
