A TOTAL of P11 billion worth of illegal drugs seized by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents in an operation in Infanta, Quezon were destroyed recently.
NBI Director Eric Distor said that in a memorandum submitted by the NBI Forensic Chemistry Division (NBI-FCD), the P11 billion in dangerous drugs were ordered destroyed by the Regional Trial Court of the Fourth Judicial Region of Infanta, Quezon.
Distor said the illegal drugs were destroyed after it was turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). Six NBI-FCD personnel attended and witnessed the destruction of the drugs at the Integrated Waste Management Inc. (IWMI) facility in Trece Martirez, Cavite.
NBI chemists participated in placing the dangerous drugs inside the pyrolysis machine, conducted the inventory and accounted 80 sealed black plastic boxes, while other NBI-FCD personnel were allowed to take photos and witness the destruction.
On March 15, 2022, operatives of the NBI-Task Force Against Illegal Drugs (TFAID), NBI-Research and Analysis Division (RAD) and the NBI-Lucena District Office (LUCDO), in coordination with the Philippine National Police-Infanta, Quezon and PDEA Lucena seized 1,855 kilograms or a total of P11 billion worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu in Barangay Comon, Infanta Quezon.
The operation also netted the arrest of 10 suspects caught while in the act of transporting the suspected illegal drugs on board three commuter vans. The drug haul is considered to be the biggest to date in the history of the Philippines’ fight against illegal drugs.
