MORE than 70 percent of those who died or experienced severe symptoms of COVID-19 were unvaccinated.
This was pointed out by Department of Health (DOH) Spokesperson and Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire following the recent surge due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
Vergeire said 71.8 percent of those unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated experienced serious or critical conditions.
About 77.4 percent of those who died of the disease only had one dose or were still unvaccinated against COVID-19.
Vergeire said 37 percent of the overall bed utilization rate in the country was still lower compared to those who were hospitalized during the surge of the Delta variant.
The DOH official still reminded the public to continue observing minimum public health standards since transmission rates are still high, particularly in Regions 9, 10, 11 and 12.
Vergeire added that new COVID-19 cases in the country is lower by 52 percent compared to last week’s numbers.
