HINDI pinagbigyan ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang hirit ng ilang mga mambabatas na palawigin ang deadline ng pagpaparehistro ng mga bagong botante na itinakda na sa Oktubre 31.
Gayunman, pinayagan ng Comelec en banc ang pagpapalawig ng oras ng pagpaparehistro upang makabawi sa mga araw na umiral ang enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) at hindi nakapagproseso ang mga aplikasyon ng mga bagong botante.
“The en Banc — citing concerns about the timeline of preparations for the 2022 National and Local Elections, as well as significant continuing apprehensions about the health and safety of the public and of COMELEC personnel — decided against extending the voter registration period beyond September [30], 2021,” pahayag ni Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez.
“However, the en Banc also unanimously approved the extension of voter registration hours, as well as the opening of voter registration on Saturdays and holidays, for the remainder of the voter registration period,” dagdag ni Jimenez.
Ayon kay Jimenez, palalawigin na ang oras ng pagpaparehistro na hanggang alas-7 ng gabi mula Lunes hanggang Sabado at kahit holidays.
