NPA attacks soldiers while conducting humanitarian aid to affected typhoon Ulysses in Quezon

CAMP CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal – Soldiers of Philippine Army engaged an encounter against New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists while conducting Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) in CALABARZON due to Typhoon “Ulyses” this Thursday (November 12) in Barangay Lahing Macaleon, Quezon.

Brig. General Greg Almerol, commander of 2nd Infantry Division said the attack was led by alias Mitch which posturing threat against the community in the said municipality.

Government troops deploy in the said place and rebels attack them which turn into a 50-minute encounter.

After the fight, soldiers recovered an Improvised Explosive Device or IED, four magazines, one bandolier, and various enemy war paraphernalia that was left by the scampering terrorist said Brig. Gen Norwyn Romeo Tolentino, Commander of the 201st Brigade.

Suddenly, Major General Almerol ordered his troops not to lower their guards even while conducting humanitarian activities.

Calamities can be an opportunity for the NPA terrorists to further their plans in terrorizing people.

He said, “No words will ever be enough to express our disgust over the NPA’s unacceptable act in threatening the communities and endangering their lives instead of joining the government’s cause in helping the people amid the devastation brought about by Typhoon Ulysses.”

As of now, a total of 702 soldiers and 91 military trucks across Southern Tagalog are placed in high alert for HADR mission in areas greatly affected by the devastation of Ulysses, most especially in the areas of Rodriguez and Tanay in Rizal Province.
