THE 27th Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Police Lt. Gen. Dionardo Carlos, formally assumed his post today.
Outgoing PNP chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar formally turned over command of the PNP to its new chief during the Change of Command ceremony held today at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Carlos will still hold the rank of Lieutenant General since a written order from Malacanang is still needed for his promotion.
In his message, the new PNP chief expressed his gratitude for being chosen by the president to lead the national police force’s more than 200,000 personnel.
He said he will continue the Intensified Cleanliness Policy initiated by PGen. Eleazar, including the fiscal transparency implemented by former PNP chiefs PGen. Archie Gamboa and PGen. Debold Sinas.
Now that the crime rate is much lower PLt. Gen. Carlos said he will make sure the old ways of lawless elements will not return anymore with the intensified campaign against criminality, and the Oplan Double Barrel Finale “Version 2021” against illegal drugs.
He also urged his fellow policemen to join him in the service to the nation, and prove to Filipinos that they have a police force capable of bringing the best service to the country.
PLt. Gen. Carlos is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1988. He was the PNP’s spokesperson in 2016 before he became Chief of the Directorial Staff of the PNP.
He also headed the Aviation Secutrity Group, Highway Patrol Group, Directorate for Information and Communication Technology Management, and Directorate for Police Community Relations.
