A NEW pro-gun law in Texas went effect on Wednesday. The new law allows Texans to own and carry a firearm openly in public even without getting permission or training.

The controversial “constitutional carry” legislation is the latest in a series of pro gun bills passed by lawmakers this year after gun violence incidents rose in Texas.

Data from the Gun Violence Archive (GVA) revealed a 14-percent increase in shootings this year with 3,200, compared to last year with 2,800 shooting incidents.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia stated that it will be harder for the police to identify “good boy with a gun to bad guy with a gun” as people can now openly carry firearms in public.

Before the law went effect on Wednesday, people are required to undergo complete training and pass the written and proficiency exams. Only then will a person be allowed to carry a gun in public.
