THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 9,671 new COVID-19 cases today, which is lower than yesterday’s 11,021 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 8, 2021.

However, positivity rate was at another high of 20.3 percent with 51,296 people who were tested.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country at 1,658,916, while active cases rose again to 77,516 from yesterday’s 76,063 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

A total of 287 COVID-19 deaths were registered today, higher than yesterday’s total of 162 deaths. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 29,122.

The DOH also logged 8,079 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, lower than the 9,194 recoveries posted yesterday.

Currently, there are now 1,552,278 individuals listed as total recoveries.

Majority, or 96.1 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.

A total of 96 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 92 were recoveries.

Add to that were three cases earlier tagged as recoveries have been validated as active cases, while 149 cases previously recorded as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

All laboratories were operational on August 6, 2021 and were able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).

Daily case counts are affected by the output from the laboratories nationwide. The relatively low case counts today is due to lower laboratory output last Friday.

The agency continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
