A TOTAL of 5,462 new COVID-19 cases were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) today, June 9, 2021, which is slightly higher than the 4,777 total recorded yesterday, according to the latest COVID-19 case bulletin by the DOH.
As of now, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country has already reached 1,286,217, with 54,000 listed as active cases or patients currently being treated in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
A total of 126 cases were added to the list of COVID-19 deaths, which is higher compared to the 95 recorded yesterday. This brings to 22,190 the total number of fatalities from the dreaded disease.
Moreover, 70 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
There were also 7,854 new recoveries from the disease, which is higher than yesterday’s 7,122. Currently, there are now 1,210,027 individuals listed as total recoveries.
Meanwhile, positivity rate is at 12.6 percent from 39,788 people who were tested.
Majority, or 95.6 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.
The DOH clarified that although all laboratories that were the source of data released today were operational last June 7, 2021, eight laboratories failed to submit data to the COVID-19 document repository system (CDRS).
Based on data for the past 14 days, the eight non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 2.1 percent of samples tested and 2.7 percent of positive individuals.
The DOH continues to appeal to the public to maintain the observance of health and safety protocols to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in the country.
