New COVID-19 cases sink to 5k level; total infections breach 1.4-million mark today

THE Department of Health (DOH) today reported that new COVID-19 cases sank to 5,604, which is slightly lower than yesterday’s 6,096 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, June 28, 2021.

Also, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country has already breached the 1.4-million level, registering 1,403,588, with 52,029 listed as active cases or patients who are currently being treated in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

The DOH also logged 6,154 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, which is lower than the 6,912 recoveries recorded yesterday.

Currently, there are now 1,327,103 individuals listed as total recoveries.

A total of 84 cases were added to the list of COVID-19 deaths today, which is lower than the 128 cases recorded yesterday. This brings to 24,456 the total number of COVID-19 fatalities.

There were also 57 cases previously reported as recoveries have been validated to be active cases and 38 cases earlier reported as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

Also, eight duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which six were recoveries.

Meanwhile, positivity rate is at 12.5 percent from 42,771 people who were tested.

Majority, or 95.0 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.

All laboratories were operational on June 26, 2021 while six laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the six non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 1.5 percent of samples tested and 2.5 percent of positive individuals.

The DOH continues to remind the public that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
