THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that traffic in the NCR has gotten heavy, and expects it to become heavier as alert levels go down with the decline in COVID-19 cases.
MMDA Officer-in-Charge General Manager Romando Artes said that when Metro Manila was placed under Alert Level 2, they started to see the heavy flow of traffic especially along EDSA in the afternoon and during rush hours.
There are already at least 345,000 traversing EDSA daily, which is not too far from the pre-pandemic vehicular flow of 405,882 every day.
The MMDA also warned that traffic could get heavier or almost back to normal if the alert level in the NCR will go down further to Alert Level 1.
Currently, the agency is mulling if it will bring back the number coding scheme to its regular hours.
It was in December 1 last year when the MMDA brought back the number coding scheme in the NCR, from 5 pm up to 8 during weekdays and only covers private vehicles.
