NBA suspends playoff games today

The National Basketball Association (NBA) decided to suspend the playoff games scheduled today.

This happened after the Milwaukee Bucks boycotted their Game 5 match versus the Orlando Magic. The Bucks could have moved to the second round of the playoffs if they win today. The Magic meanwhile said that they will not accept a win via forfeiture and left the court when they heard that their opponents will not come to play.

The boycott was due to the team’s support on the “Black Lives Matter” movement that ignited in the US after the death of George Floyd, an American black man who died at the hands of white policemen. This week, another black man named Jacob Blake was shot 7 times after a confrontation with police officers. Blake is currently in coma.

Below is the official message of the NBA:

“The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association today announced that in light of the Milwaukee Bucks’ decision to not take the floor today for Game 5 against the Orlando Magic, today’s three games – Bucks vs. Magic, Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers – have been postponed.  Game 5 of each series will be rescheduled.”
