COPS are supposedly paid to protect and serve us, but in Cainta is a cop by the name of Police Officer 3 Constancio Daga who’s been doing pretty well and earning quite lucratively out of mulcting detainees billeted at the Cainta lock-up jail facility.
Yes, of all people, this cop is reportedly extorting persons deprived of liberty (PDL).
In a message I got from a street vendor Erlinda Manyo claiming to be a relative of a PDL, Daga has been accused of compelling detainees to pay up the amount of P2,000 — or be shipped to remote jail facilities where relatives may not be able to visit them.
According to Miss Manyo, the last time she went to the lock-up jail to bring some food for her detained son, one inmate managed to sneak out a letter, from where she learned about what the name-dropping cop has been doing.
“May isang pulis dun na di naman naka-assign sa lock-up. Ang pangalan po ay Constancio Sewa Daga isa daw po siyang bodyguard ng aming mabait na Mayor Keith Nieto. Sa mga nakakulong dun kailangan daw magbigay sila ng 2k. Yung ayaw magbigay, ililipat daw po sa BJMP facility,” reads a part of her letter.
Aside from extortion, Miss Manyo alleged that Daga also compels each inmate to buy on a daily basis his “ice-candy” worth P10 each. Daga must really be making lots of money via extortion and forcibly selling his colored frozen ice sticks.
May I remind this cop named Daga that those behind bars are “deprived of liberty” to work, study and live with their families among other basic rights for the simple reason that they are in jail.
Another thing, we’re under a deep shit crisis in view of the global pandemic. So why the hell is he forcing these people – PDLs and their relatives, to shell out money at a time many Filipinos have lost their jobs or prevented from going to work in view of the government-imposed restrictions?
What makes it worse is that he has been dragging the name of the Mayor in his dubious money-making schemes.
I know Mayor Nieto. I met him many years back when he was still the municipal lawyer of the Cainta local government unit, then under the administration of former Mayor Ramon Ilagan. I am quite certain he won’t be coddling nincompoops in his stable.
While I am admittedly pissed off by the reports I got, I am nonetheless keeping my line open for officer Daga’s side of the story.
