THE Philippine National Police (PNP) appealed to the public, especially motorists, to behave and follow traffic rules to ensure the safety, not only of the drivers and riders, but also the public.
PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar referred to an incident in Zamboanga City wherein three motorcycle riders engaged into a dangerous drag race while traversing the road on September 4.
He said the riders have already been identified and sanctioned. He reminded the public that this incident should serve as a lesson to drive safely and use roads properly.
Reports reaching his office said the licenses of the riders, identified as Anton Jan Refran Loon, Harson Dale Feliciano Natividad, and Juniesher Ismun Bonifacio, have been confiscated for alleged violation of Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
The riders are also facing a three-month suspension as they are prohibited to drive any kind of vehicle. They were also issued a Temporary Operator’s Permit (TOP).
Authorities will still determine if their licenses would be revoked or not.
Meanwhile, PGen Eleazar urged the public to report to law enforcers riders and drivers who pose risks to the public’s safety when on roads. He mentioned the police officers in Zambales who have been penalized after performing motorcycle stunts.
“I also hope that this, along with the incident in Zambales involving our two personnel who were also sanctioned, would further encourage our kababayan to report to the police activities that endanger the lives of our people on the road. Your safety is in your hands by reporting to us these activities and we assure swift action on your complaint,” he said.
The PNP maintains an E-Sumbong platform where the public can lodge their complaints.
