THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) vaccination team assisted a woman about to give birth at their vaccination site at the MMDA Makati City headquarters on Monday.
The agency shared that the father of the newborn baby, a tricycle driver, knocked at the agency’s facility at 5:27 p.m. and asked for assistance for his 26-year-old wife who was experiencing contractions.
The father recalled how he brought his spouse to a lying-in-clinic near Guadalupe Church only to be denied because the facility was not operational.
The couple finally got accepted at the Guadalupe Nuevo barangay hall but they were instructed to wait. However, knowing that his wife can no longer hold back, he decided to seek for the vaccination team’s help.
The vaccination team immediately called for an ambulance and arranged a makeshift delivery table after learning about the woman’s labor pains.
Soon after, the woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl via normal delivery. Mother and child were reportedly in stable condition but were admitted to Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital for further monitoring.
MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos praised the heroic deed of the vaccination team whose nature of work was mostly under the Road Emergency Group, and recognized their willingness to provide help at any opportunity.
“I commend the members of our vaccination team who responded to the appeal of this couple to help them and went beyond their call of duty,” he expressed.
Abalos also emphasized that medical frontliners do not just inoculate individuals against COVID-19 but can also perform duties even beyond their abilities.
“In these trying times, we are very much grateful for all the work done by our frontliners and vaccination team. They don’t just vaccinate but they are also ready and willing to help those who need immediate medical attention,” Abalos said.
“I appreciate all your hard work and sacrifices. You are indeed the true heroes in this pandemic,” he added.
