THE Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) gave its thumbs-up for the playing of contact sports like basketball in the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos, those who will play in outdoor and indoor venues should be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Venue capacity should be limited to 50 percent, the MMDA chairman added.

The MMDA announced the decision though it said it will depend on the final decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

He said it is also up to the player’s decision whether to wear a face mask while playing. But those on the sidelines or players’ bench should still wear face masks and observe physical distancing.

Meanwhile, it is expected that guidelines with regard to the conduct of contact sports will be finalized next week.
