May 9 polls should be 100-percent “brownout-free”

THE areas to be used as voting centers such as schools should be made 100-percent brown-out free by making sure that electricity supply is steady and stable on election day.

This was emphasized by House Resolution 2538 that was filed in the Lower House of Congress more than a month before the May 9 national and local elections.

In the resolution, the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Education (DepEd) and other government agencies and stakeholders were urged to help each other to assure that will be no hiccups or problems with electricity on Election Day, particularly in schoolls that will serve as polling precincts.

The resolution also emphasized that the integrity of automated elections in the country should be monitored.

And to implement this, it is best to take action, including making sure that there will be no issues related to electricity so as not to put the elections in jeopardy.

In an earlier statement by Comelec commissioner George Garcia, he said that the poll body will coordinate with the DOE to ensure that there is enough supply of electricity on election day despite the surge of prices of petroleum products.
