Marcos honors Bataan war heroes, calls for lasting peace on ‘Araw ng Kagitingan’

PILAR, Bataan – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the nation in honoring the heroism and sacrifices of Filipino and Allied soldiers during the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan commemoration held on Tuesday. Speaking at the historic Mt. Samat Shrine, the President paid tribute to the bravery of those who fought in the Battle of Bataan, emphasizing their vital role in securing the peace the country enjoys today.

“We celebrate today the heroism of all those who fought here in Bataan, and we celebrate the peace that was hard-earned by the blood and sacrifice of our servicemen—not just Filipinos, not just Americans, but all who bravely fought for their nations,” Marcos said.

The annual event served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made during World War II, particularly in one of its most harrowing chapters—the fall of Bataan. President Marcos used the occasion to highlight the enduring lessons of war, stressing that peace is the only true resolution to conflict.

“The solution to war is not more war,” he declared. “The solution to war is only peace—an honorable peace, forged with the participation and commitment of all parties involved.”

Marcos also underscored the importance of learning from the past while striving for a better future. He urged public servants and citizens alike to safeguard the legacy of freedom earned through the courage of wartime heroes.

“We must continue to celebrate peace every day,” he added. “As those who serve the public, it is our duty to preserve it, to strengthen it, and to ensure that it leads to lives that are meaningful, productive, and dignified.”

In closing, the President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to uphold unity, protect historical memory, and work toward a peaceful and prosperous future for all Filipinos.
