March 29, 2021 will be a special non-working holiday in the lakeshore municipality of Binangonan in Rizal province.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said that pandemic or no pandemic, every local government must somehow commemorate its founding anniversary, he said after transmitting a two-page document transmitted by Malacañang to the Binangonan local government unit.

It is but fitting and proper for the people of Binangonan, Rizal to be given the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” reads Proclamation 1122, and signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Medialdea, however, cited that activities would have to be subject to community quarantine, social distancing and other health measures, if only to make sure that the highly contagious coronavirus diseases would not spread in the locality.

Speaking on behalf of Binangonan Mayor Cesar Ynares, municipal administrator Russel Callanta Ynares assured that the local government has already put in place measures that would guarantee the commemorative activities would not engage a crowd.

Even before the issuance of Proclamation 1122, the Municipal Government of Binangonan has been making full use of (the) modern day technology that we refer to as the internet. Most of the activities that we do here are online. Even local government transactions have gone digital,” says the young Ynares.
