COVID-19 update: Another all-time high of 8,773 new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded a new all-time high number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country today.

In Case Bulletin #376, DOH logged a total of 8,773 single-day count of new COVID-19 cases today for a total of 99,891 active cases.

This brings the overall confirmed number of COVID-19 cases to 693,048.

A total of 574 were registered to have recovered, which brings the total recoveries to 580,062, while 56 people were confirmed dead to up the total to 13,095 COVID-19 deaths.

Of all the cases, about 98 percent of the cases are either mild or asymptomatic.

Active cases are treated at hospitals and other facilities, where the rise in COVID-19 cases means it will go to full capacity. This is why the DOH, together with the rest of the government, continues to call on the public to strictly follow minimum public health standards (MPHS) and to suspend non-essential travel and ensure strict adherence to existing safety protocols.

The public is called on to wear their masks properly, and to observe other preventive strategies, AT ALL TIMES and IN ALL SETTINGS—even at home—in order to help reduce transmission.

Moreover, the DOH urges all individuals experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 to immediately coordinate with their respective Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) for appropriate management and referral for testing and isolation.

The DOH continues to emphasize that the number one objective right now is to ensure care is not hampered nor delayed for COVID and non-COVID patients.  To do this, hospitals should not get overwhelmed so everyone must act with extreme vigilance and help reduce transmission by consistently adhering to preventive measures, as well as following quarantine and isolation protocols.
