Manila Archbishop Cardinal Advincula tests positive for COVID-19

MANILA Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula has tested positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms, the Archdiocese of Manila confirmed Friday.

Fr. Reginald Malicdem, in a statement, shared that Advincula has a “slight fever” but is currently undergoing quarantine and is strictly observing minimum health protocols.

Despite not experiencing any other symptoms as of this writing, Fr. Malicdem said that the 69-year-old cardinal is closely monitored by doctors.

He further asked the public to include the welfare and fast recovery of Cardinal Advincula and other individuals who were infected with coronavirus in their prayers.

We appeal for your prayers for His Eminence and for all those who are sick with COVID-19,” Malicdem expressed.

The prelate of the Catholic Church became Archbishop of Manila last June 24. Prior to his stint, Advincula has served from 2001 to 2011 as bishop of San Carlos in Negros Occidental and eventually, as Archbishop of Cápiz from 2011 to 2021.
