MALACAÑANG today declared that January 9, 2024 will be a special non-working holiday in the City of Manila in observance of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
The order was issued by the Office of the President through Proclamation No. 434 and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the proclamation noted.
The Feast of the Black Nazarene, which falls on a Tuesday, January 9, 2024, will be the first time that the annual Traslacion, the procession that commemorates the transfer of the image of the Black Nazarene from Intramuros to Quiapo, will be held face-to-face for the first time after a three-year hiatus because of the pandemic.
Security will be tight as millions of Black Nazarene devotees from all over the country are expected to troop to Quiapo Church in order to participate and show their devotion.
