QUEZON CITY — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against a bus firm after a video of one of its buses performing a dangerous maneuver went viral.
Following a directive from the President to prioritize road safety, the bus firm, Victory Liner, Inc., was summoned after the incident, which was captured via dashcam or smartphone and uploaded to Facebook. The video shows the bus engaging in a “dangerous maneuver” against a truck along an expressway. While the truck driver did not retaliate as the bus sped off, the LTFRB’s social media monitoring team flagged the footage for immediate investigation.
LTFRB Chairman Atty. Vigor Mendoza II confirmed that the agency is currently coordinating with the netizen who uploaded the video to gather further details. “I saw the video and there is clearly a violation on the part of the bus driver. We are now investigating to determine if the bus was carrying passengers at the time of the incident,” Mendoza said, adding that such behavior is “not acceptable” and violates road safety protocols.
The SCO, dated February 9, mandates that the bus firm identify the driver involved and appear for a formal hearing on February 25. Both the company and the driver are required to submit a written explanation justifying why they should not be held liable for the incident. According to the order, a failure to appear or file an answer will be considered a waiver of their right to be heard, leading to the immediate imposition of penalties.
Mendoza also urged bus operators to be more proactive in “policing their own ranks,” reminding companies that the lives of passengers and other motorists are at stake when road rage or misconduct occurs. He further stated that the LTFRB will intensify its monitoring of public utility vehicles (PUVs) to ensure quick responses to complaints against erring drivers and operators.
