The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has acknowledged a petition from various transport groups seeking to increase the minimum fare for public utility jeepneys to P15.
In a statement, LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III emphasized the agency’s understanding of the financial challenges faced by jeepney drivers and operators due to escalating fuel prices and the rising cost of living.
“While we remain committed to ensuring that their livelihood is sustainable, we must also carefully balance this with the welfare of commuters who are equally affected by the current economic conditions,” Guadiz said.
The LTFRB confirmed that it is conducting a thorough review of the petition, taking into account key factors such as fuel price trends, inflation rates, and the broader economic implications for the public.
To ensure transparency and inclusivity, the board plans to hold public hearings and consultations with stakeholders.
“We assure all stakeholders that the board will conduct public hearings and consultations to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process,” Guadiz added.
The LTFRB reaffirmed its commitment to finding fair and equitable solutions that address the needs of both transport operators and the commuting public. Further announcements regarding the decision on the petition are expected following the review process.
