THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) stood pat in its declaration that the photo that went viral on social media where the name of a presidential candidate was missing in a ballot in New Zealand was fake.
Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said that the Philippine Embassy in New Zealand already issued a statement that no Filipino voter in New Zealand filed a complaint regarding this.
Garcia insisted that the printing of ballots is done by batch so if this were true, then they would have received many complaints already.
Garcia was unable to hide his dismay on questions why the need to spread wrong information with the objective of discrediting the elections.
This is because after the culprit in posting the fake picture was identified, the photo was taken down immediately.
The poll body official said the public should only get information from legitimate news sources and not from social media where fake news proliferates.
Garcia made the statement after the signing of the Peace Covenant with local candidates, together with the police and military in Negros Oriental.
