THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced that it will be able to issue driver’s licenses in the National Capital Region (NCR) with a 10-year validity starting tomorrow, Wednesday, November 3.

According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante, the new validity period comes from the previous 5-years for driver’s licenses issued by the LTO.

Galvante also clarified that those qualified to receive the driver’s license with 10-year validity are applicants without any traffic violation, and will undergo a refresher seminar and exams.

Meanwhile, drivers who violated traffic rules are only qualified to get a driver’s license with 5-year validity.

“Those who will get the 10-year license do not have to go back and forth to the LTO for license renewal. Another thing great about the driver’s license with 10-year validity is that they don’t have to pay extra,” according to Galvante.

Galvante added, however, that drivers with valid driver’s licenses cannot apply yet for the driver’s license with10-year validity while the deadline for those whose licenses expired last October have until December 31 of this year to apply.

They have enough time to comply with the requirement of comprehensive driver’s education. We wish to remind the public that those who have not completed the requirement are advised not go to the LTO for driver’s license renewal,” pahayag pa ni Galvante.
