IATF to lead discussion of issues regarding proposed voluntary face mask policy in Cebu City

THE Department of Health (DOH) announced that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases or IATF will lead in the discussion of certain issues, including the voluntary wearing of face mask policy proposed by Cebu City.

DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire made the declaration in response to the new executive order released by the local government of Cebu City government that calls for a more relaxed policy with regard to the wearing of face masks.

Vergeire said they are not aware of such a proposal, adding that it will be part of the agenda for discussion this afternoon.

The acting DOH chief reiterated the value of wearing face masks, which she said helps provide protection against other ailments in the country such as respiratory infections that include flu, pneumonia, and others.

WHen it comes to relaxing restrictions, Vergeire said that there are certain conditions that need to be met such as high vaccine booster uptake and low-rikk infection level.

Based on the DOH COVID-19 tracker, Cebu City logged 37 new COVID-19 cases last Sunday to reach an overall 59,617 cases.

Of this number, 57,633 have already recovered and 1,646 are fatalities, which 338 are active cases.

Based on latest DOH data, bed occupancy rate is at 29.2 percent or 142 are occupied out of the 486 COVID-19 beds.

The level of occupancy rate in 10 hospitals in the city are considered low risk, two are in moderate risk and one is on high-risk level.
