HPG, Rizal cops commended for successful ops vs robbers in Antipolo

MEMBERS of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and the Rizal Police Provincial Office were commended for their quick and aggressive anti-criminality operation that resulted in the death of six suspected robbers/carnappers in Antipolo City.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar commended the group, and also ordered a thorough investigation to determine if the same group of suspects was responsible for the death of a security guard of a convenience store in Antipolo City whose killing was captured in the CCTV footage that went viral in social media last week.

According to initial police investigation, the suspects tried to rob a gasoline station at Sitio Boso-Boso in Barangay San Jose early morning of Thursday, October 14.

HPG operatives have been conducting surveillance on the suspects and after receiving intelligence reports that the group would rob a business establishment in Antipolo City, they immediately went to the area and chanced upon the suspects on board a car and a motorcycle near a gasoline station.

The suspects, however, opened fire at the approaching HPG personnel which triggered a car chase. They were then cornered after operatives of the Rizal PPO set a road block in their escape routes.

The suspects were reportedly responsible in robbery incidents in Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila and Rizal.

Let this serve as a strong message to the criminal elements that while the PNP is extending its assistance to contain the spread of the COVID-19, we have not lowered our guard against them and we will continue to do so to maintain peace and order and to protect the people as the government starts to normalize the economy,” said PGen Eleazar.

The Chief PNP said that he also instructed all unit commanders to step up the anti-criminality campaign especially that the national government is already starting to reopen the economy through easing of restrictions on the pandemic.

Now that the economy is starting to recover and reopen, we are expecting that this will give criminals and syndicates the chance to victimize our kababayans,” said PGen Eleazar.

My order to all our unit commanders, particularly those in urban areas, to further strengthen their anti-criminality drive and preemptive security measures to deny these criminal elements the opportunity to strike,” the Chief PNP added.
