House to probe “phishing scam” of teachers’ payroll accounts

THE House of Representatives was asked to investigate the reported “phishing scam” that affected some teachers’ payroll accounts with Landbank of the Philippines.

In House Resolution 2484, the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture was urged to look into the issue “in aid of legislation” and take steps to protect the teachers.

Based on information, more or less 20 public school teachers were victimized by the phishing scam.

Sadly, some of them were scammed ranging from P10,000 up to P150,000 of their hard-earned savings.

Aside from conducting an investigation on the issue, lawmakers also wanted to find out the steps taken by the Department of Education (DepEd) on behalf of teachers who lost their money.

The National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice and even the Landbank already conducted their own investigation about this phishing incident.
