THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported that 27 highly urbanized cities have already achieved herd immunity among their target population.

In his report to President Rodrigo Duterte last night, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said among these cities are those in the National Capital Region (NCR), Baguio City, Angeles City, Iloilo City, Lapu-lapu City, Mandaue City, and Davao City.

According to Año, these cities have already reached their target of 70 percent and above in terms of fully vaccinated individuals.

Año also presented to President Duterte the performance report of local government units (LGUs) during the national vaccination days held last November 29 to December 1 that was extended to December 3 in other LGUs.

Region 4-A led all regions after they have vaccinated 1.1 million individuals. Region 3 was next with 838,000, followed by Region 7 with 649,000 vaccinated individuals.

For those regions that were able to vaccinate their committed target, Region 1 led after vaccinating 322 percent of their target. NCR achieved 172 percent of their target, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with 159 percent of their target.

Meanwhile, the regions that were able to fully vaccinate 40 percent or higher of their citizens were the NCR, CAR, Regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A, 7 and Region 11.

On the other hand, 14 provinces recorded more than 50 percent of fully vaccinated individuals, including Abra, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Batanes, Quirino, Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite, Laguna, Siquijor, Biliran, and Camiguin.

Año said the objective of mentioning the top performing areas for the vaccination is to urge the other areas to catch up in their vaccination efforts, particularly for the second phase of the national vaccination, which will be held on December 15-17, 2021.
