THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 8,900 new COVID-19 cases today, which is slightly lower than yesterday’s 9,671 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 9, 2021.
However, positivity rate was at another high of 21.3 percent with 50,096 people who were tested.
With the additional cases today, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country is now at 1,667,714, while active cases rose further to 78,480 from yesterday’s 77,516 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
A total of only six COVID-19 deaths were registered today, a new low and significantly lower than yesterday’s 287 deaths. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 29,128.
The DOH also logged 7,937 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, lower than the 8,079 recoveries posted yesterday.
Currently, there are now 1,560,106 individuals listed as total recoveries.
Majority, or 96.1 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.
A total of 102 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 98 were recoveries.
Also, four cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
All laboratories were operational on August 7, 2021 and all were able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
The agency continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
