The National Capital Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), plus six other areas in the country will be on General Community Quarantine (GCQ) status.

The order will be in effect for the whole month of February, according to an announcement by Malacañang on Friday.

Batangas, Tacloban City, Davao City, Davao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Iligan City were the other areas to be placed under GCQ, says presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

All other areas in the country will be under the less stricter Modified General Community Quarantine or MGCQ.

Roque said the new community quarantine classifications were approved by President Rodrigo Duterte.

The CAR was previously under MGCQ status. However, the revision in community quarantine classification was made after a case of the UK variant of COVID-19 was reported in the region earlier this month.

Out of the 17 COVID-19 UK variant cases, 12 were traced in Bontoc, Mountain Province.
