FRANCE— Following the recommendation of the European Union (EU), France has become the latest European country to remove the United States from its safe list due to the wake of new infections in there.
A French government decree issued on Thursday added the United States and Israel from the nation’s “green list” to “orange list” indicating effectively prohibiting nonessential travel to France for unvaccinated visitors.
Under France’s rule, unvaccinated travelers will be allowed to travel provided they will present an essential reason for traveling and must be tested negative for COVID-19 test and be quarantined for seven days upon arrival.
France is one from the EU to ban American travelers to enter its nation. While on this week, Spain requires American travelers to present a certificate proving double vaccination.
Denmark and Netherlands have updated their restriction requiring proof of vaccination for US travelers. Sweden has banned US visitors regardless of their vaccination status and Italy required visitors to present a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours upon traveling regardless if vaccinated or not.
These new measures followed the recommendation from the European Union to its member states to restrict US arrivals due to the alarming cases of COVID-19 in United States.
