For the 4th straight day, new COVID-19 infections remain at 2k level

THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded 2,087 new COVID-19 infections, slightly lower than yesterday’s 2,605 count, according to the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, November 8, 2021.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to the 2.8-million mark with 2,805,294 cases.

Active cases, on the other hand, went down further to 32,077 cases today after registering a 33,526 count yesterday. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

Recoveries from COVID-19 today, meanwhile, went slightly down with 3,510 new recoveries compared to yesterday’s 3,901. Overall, COVID-19 recoveries in the country have reached a total of 2,728,696 cases.

The DOH also logged 91 COVID-19 fatalities today compared to yesterday’s 191 deaths to bring the total COVID-19 deaths to 44,521.

Positivity rate today, meanwhile, remained at 5.2 percent based on 43,206 people who were tested.

Around 70.4 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.

A total of 6 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 5 were recoveries.

There were also 66 cases that were tagged earlier as recoveries but were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

All laboratories were operational on November 6, 2021 while eight laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the eight non-reporting laboratories contributed, on average, 0.8 percent of samples tested and 1.2 percent of positive individuals.

The agency continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. It also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
