The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has confirmed that a Filipino crew member is missing following a collision between a chemical tanker and a container ship off the northeast coast of England.
According to reports from the licensed manning agency (LMA), the missing able seaman (AB) was aboard MV Solong, which collided with the oil tanker Stena Immaculate in the North Sea on March 10, 2025, at approximately 10:00 AM (UK local time) in the Humber Estuary, near Hull.
The seafarer was last seen at the bow of MV Solong, the area of the vessel that caught fire following a massive explosion.
Eight other Filipino crew members were on board MV Solong. All were safely rescued and are currently staying at a hotel in Grimsby, London, as they await repatriation.
UK authorities, in coordination with the flag states of the vessels, have launched an official investigation into the cause of the incident.
The LMA has personally informed the family of the missing seafarer and has committed to providing them with daily updates.
The DMW remains in close coordination with the LMA and the families of the affected seafarers to ensure that all necessary assistance and support are provided during this difficult time.
