Motorists traveling along EDSA-Ortigas, especially near SM Megamall, should brace for heavier traffic and longer delays in the coming months.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced the construction of a new footbridge that will provide a direct pedestrian link between SM Megamall and the EDSA Busway. The project, led by a private contractor, aims to improve pedestrian access and safety in the area.
The SM Megamall Footbridge for the EDSA Busway will be built along EDSA, directly in front of the mall, between Doña Julia Vargas Avenue and Bank Drive. Construction is set to continue until June 10, 2025, with work expected to last around five months.
According to the MMDA, the project will affect both the sidewalk and the center island along EDSA near SM Megamall. Construction will proceed 24/7 and is a joint effort between the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and SM Management.
Given the anticipated impact on traffic flow in the area, the MMDA advises motorists to plan their routes accordingly, consider alternative roads, and exercise patience as work progresses on this infrastructure improvement.
