Popular Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, best known for her iconic role as Shancai in the hit series Meteor Garden, has passed away at the age of 48.
According to Taiwan Focus, Hsu died of pneumonia after contracting influenza during the Lunar New Year holiday. The heartbreaking news was confirmed on Monday by her sister, Dee Hsu, through her agent.
“Our whole family came to Japan for a trip, and my dearest and most kindhearted sister, Barbie Hsu, died of influenza-induced pneumonia and, unfortunately, left us,” Dee Hsu shared through her agent.
Barbie Hsu rose to fame across Asia, including the Philippines, for her role as Shancai in the 2001 Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, where she starred opposite Jerry Yan, who played Daoming Si. Her performance left a lasting impact on fans and solidified her status as a beloved figure in Asian entertainment.
Hsu’s passing marks a great loss to the entertainment industry, and she will be fondly remembered for her talent, charm, and the unforgettable roles she brought to life.
