Former Bases Conversation Development Authority (BCDA) President Vince Dizon has been appointed as the new secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed on Thursday.

Dizon’s appointment will take effect on February 21, 2025 (Friday), replacing outgoing DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, who resigned due to health reasons.

“He is already authorized by the Office of the President to begin the transition at the DOTr in coordination with Secretary Bautista’s team,” Bersamin said in a message to reporters.

Dizon also served as the country’s COVID-19 response advisor under former President Rodrigo Duterte.

The right man” to do the job

Meanwhile, Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda, chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, expressed strong support for the appointment of Vince Dizon as the new secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

In a statement, Salceda first extended his gratitude to outgoing DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista for his service and friendship, wishing him well as he steps down due to health reasons.

Salceda highlighted his long-standing working relationship with Dizon, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and in key policy decisions, including the passage of the tax reform program in Congress.

“When you need a job done, you hire Vince, and the job gets done,” Salceda said, expressing confidence that Dizon will quickly immerse himself in the work at the DOTr. He also predicted a smooth confirmation process for the new transport chief.

Salceda concluded by stating that he looks forward to collaborating with Dizon once again in his new role.
